yep, a lot of my classmates in graduate school (mostly from India and China), the chinese didn't take each others names. But the kids take the husbands names. My parents are from Taiwan, my mom took my dad's name. But our situation, we don't have any brothers... so I think our Dad was hoping for us to keep our maiden last name as we all earned our PhDs MDs or PharmDs with our maiden name ... FI keeps bringing up the topic every now and again and he wants me to hyphenate. Good luck with the explaning :-)
