In my opinion, it shouldn't matter whether or not the photographer can speak Chinese (or any ethnic language). In fact, when we interviewed several photographers for our wedding, we were looking for those who were "stealthy" and able to stay out of sight in order to capture the real photojournalistic moments. As long as their work can speak for themselves, it shouldn't be a problem.
